Every city and every county may accept title to real property for museum or art gallery purposes, or permit the erection of buildings and improvements for such purposes on lands owned by the city or county.

Every city and every county may accept title to real property for museum or art gallery purposes, or permit the erection of buildings and improvements for such purposes on lands owned by the city or county.

Whenever any donation of real property has been made to a city or county for museum or art gallery purposes, or any building or improvements therefor have been erected upon public lands by an individual or corporation without cost to the city or county, the governing body of the city or county may delegate the management, operation, maintenance and regulation thereof to the donor or his successors, or to boards of trustees or directors nominated by the donor and appointed by the governing body of the city or county, upon such terms and conditions as the governing body may prescribe.

In every instance of such delegation of power the governing body of the city or county shall require:

The governing body of the city or county may appropriate and expend funds for the improvement, operation, expansion and support of any such art gallery or museum, and shall have, in addition to the powers specified in this article, the same powers in respect thereto that a county board of supervisors has in respect to a county museum under the provisions of Article 2 of this chapter.
